Big Boy Bed DIY

The day has come to move to a big boy bed!  I looked around some furniture stores and of course craigslist, but I couldn't find one I liked.  However I stumbled upon this site and I absolutely loved the idea of DIY an upholsted bed.  Here is my inspiration, from Land of the Nod, As you wish upholsted bed.  Isn't he beautiful! But at $999.00 before shipping unfortunately, it's not in my budget.
And here is what I bought from Ikea!  Its the Fjellse Bed Frame.  I know its not much to look at but just wait.

First we built up the frame to make it taller.  I had Home Depot cut the thinist particle board to size and then used 1x1 that I cut with a hand saw.  Then screwed them together with brackets.

I got the fabric from Fabric.com.  And this is my other assistant, Rocky!

Covered headboard with a twin size bed foam topper from Walmart.

Painted the frame with my free quart of paint, thank you Ace Hardware!

Bedframe, slats, wood, screws, brackets, foam, fabric, and paint, total under $123.00!

Fabric Boxes

A place for everything and everything in its place...is that how it goes?
I have been slowly trying to get organized.  And I mean slowly.  So here my first organization project for the year.
And this is what it looked like before.
These fabric boxes were really easy to make.  I got the tutorial here.  The fabric actually matches the wall color exactly :)

New Years Resolutions

It's been such a nice long holiday, that I haven't really had time to think of some good New Years Resolutions.  Here is what I have so far.

Try to stay present.
Travel light, get rid of stuff I've been holding on to, declutter and organize.
Take time for myself
I'm not sure if I have ever fulfilled any of my previous years resolutions, hopefully by posting these I will.

Look what we got for Christmas

XBOX 360 with Kinect

This is fun, your body is the controller.
Whee!
And some yarn and crochet needle.
I went to YouTube and learned how to crochet and made a beanie for little man in a couple evenings.

Cake Pops

I finally got to experiment with Cake Pops!  I got this Bella Cake Pop Maker on sale over the holidays.  These were super easy to make.  Here what I used.
The cake only took 4 minutes to cook.
After cooking the little cakes, I put them in the freezer for 15 minutes, so they were nice and strong and ready for frosting and sprinkles.

Yum!

Aren't they cute :)

5 things I love about you

This weekend was our anniversary, I can't believe its been 5 years since we got married. And I am happier now then I have been.

1.  I love how you are a devoted father, when you come home and get down on the floor and play with Carter.
2.  I love how you support and help with my wild project ideas that I want to do around the house.
3.  I love how you always set the coffee maker up so when I wake up all I have to do is push one button.
4.  I love your one liners, especially when you catch me off guard.
5.  I love that you made me your wife and a mother, you made my important dreams come true.

Here's to eternity, Happy Anniversary!

White Christmas Tree

This past weekend we put up some Christmas decor.  Please excuse our little white tree.  This was our first Christmas purchase as husband and wife and we loved it, of course because its white.   However we didn't even put a thought to the size.  Looking back it would have been nice to have a taller one.  We thought about getting a new taller tree last year, but you know how that goes, once we took it down, out of sight out of mind.  And here we are already Christmas again with our little tree we love. (but this time we really are going to get a taller one for next year)

Handmade Diaper Pad

I originally started this project last year, and after breakfast Sunday morning I thought about finishing it.  I have seen cute diaper pads on Etsy and wanted to see if I could make my own from left over fabric.

Since I didn't have a full piece of fabric, I pieced together two different patterns together to make a the diaper pad shape.
I didn't use any mesurements on this, everything was done free handed.  For the other side I used some soft furry fabric.  I laid the patterned fabric on top and cut around it.
After the furry fabric is cut, I tucked and pinned to stich.

Finally to keep the two fabrics from moving away from each other, I stiched a harliquin pattern.

Over the Thanksgiving holiday we celebrated our son's 2nd birthday.

As another year passes he has become more confident, can play with less assistance, can understand almost everything even the rules, and has has boundless curiosity.
